On Friday, we drove up to New Haven nearby, to visit Yale. My friend, Elan (who lives in Philly), was able to meet us in New Haven since she had been visiting another friend in Massachusetts and stopped by on her way home. Matt gives a great Yale tour since he is a history guru and of course knows a ton about the school since he has been doing a fellowship there for the past 3 years.
We all drove an hour north to the town of Mystic. We had Mystic Pizza at the restaurant from the movie and walked around the little town. After some shopping, Elan headed home since she had a 5 hour drive ahead of her. It was so great to catch up and so nice of Elan to make that trip!
The four of us proceeded to drive all through the little towns heading East along the southern CT shoreline. It was very scenic! Eventually we cut across the state and in the evening, ended up in the northwest in a town called Litchfield. We walked around and had dinner at a great restaurant. The 5 Cheese Lobster Macaroni & Cheese was a highlight! We made our way back to Guilford from there.
Saturday was our Boston day. It was another scenic drive, taking about 2.5 hours through CT and MA. We arrived just in time for a delicious lunch in China town, highly recommended by Kara and Matt. The Dim Sum experience was so much fun. I think we tried it all (at least the items that looked edible and did not involve chicken feet)!
We walked the 2.5 mile Freedom Trail, seeing many historic sites, cemeteries, churches, Faneuil Hall (Quincy Markets), Little Italy, and Paul Revere's house.
We also walked to Beacon Hill, touring the streets full of beautiful brick homes.
We stopped by Cheers (the bar from the show).
We walked along Newbury Street which had some great shops and restaurants.
For dinner, Ryan wanted to find the best Lobster Roll in town so we made the drive out of town to East Boston and came across Kelly's. We all chowed on our sandwiches and greasy onion rings by the shoreline. Although expensive for my taste, Ryan, Kara and Matt vowed that they were worth every penny!
On Sunday, we had a great breakfast on the Guilford Green at Whitfield's.
We walked all over town, admiring the beautiful, historic houses and cute shops.
Kara took us on a drive heading north through Madison and Clinton. We saw some amazing huge homes right on the water. It was a beautiful drive and a great way to end the trip! We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Matt and Kara and loved exploring Connecticut. They were great hosts.
