6 Month Check-up

Shaye is a healthy baby so we are very thankful. The pediatrician visit went well, up until the shots, but that is to be expected. She weighed in at 17 lbs, 7 oz, and is in the 75th percentile for height and weight. She has had a blocked tear duct for 3 weeks now, so we're going to try some antibiotic drops to clear it up. Otherwise, the doctor said she sits well, has strong legs, and is doing great. She had 5 shots today including a couple boosters. It was rough watching her cry that hard, but we survived!

Rice Cereal

We fed Shaye her first round of solid foods on Saturday and it was so much fun. We set up the high chair, washed the bowls and spoons, put on the plastic bib, bought and made up the rice cereal and we were in business! It was so cute watching her try to figure out what to do with the spoon in her mouth and although much of the cereal ends up around her mouth, she is swallowing some too. She seems to love it. In a few weeks we'll add veggies. Lovin' the novelties!

Raspberries

Shaye loves blowing raspberries with her mouth/tongue/lips and will respond when anyone does it back to her. It's hysterical! My dad has a 1 minute video from Monday, starring Shaye putting on a show. Note the yawn, mid-raspberry session! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dubC79SG70k

Happy 1/2 Birthday, Baby!

We sang 'Happy Birthday To You' to Shaye this morning. It's the first 1/2 birthday that she's ever had. We were certainly more excited that she's 6 months old today than she was but it was fun anyway. Of note are the accomplishments in the last few weeks. She is now rolling over. She can only roll one way at this point and gets stuck on her tummy. Hopefully she'll learn to flip onto her back soon.

She is also almost able to sit on her own. We are getting close.

When Shaye is happy she loves to bounce in our laps; and she does this often. It is adorable. She also loves walking. Granted, I am holding her hands, but she is a good walker. Let's see how long it takes her to get this crawling thing down. For all naps and night sleeping, she holds her monkey (purchased by Aunt Kara - "for the Chunky Monkey"). Here's her monkey in action.

Shaye is very vocal these days. She certainly lets us know when she needs a change of scenery and on the same note, lets us know when she is happy with her screeches and laughter! We sing to her daily and make a lot of noises to see her smile. She loves her Jumper...

...watching Sesame Street in her swing...

...and her toes!!

She loves flying like an airplane all over the house. Speaking of flying, the time has passed us by so quickly. I know that I'll blink and we'll be cleaning up a face full of frosting at her 1st birthday party!

Ah...The Outdoors!

I had missed Peter's Canyon so much. It's a regional park in Orange walking distance from our house. There are hiking/biking trails, a lake, and lots of greenery. We used to go on walks around there all the time before Shaye, including a hike two days before she was born. So we put her in the Baby Bjorn and headed out into the sunshine. It was a gorgeous day with some chilly wind, but the air was so fresh! Shaye seemed to be intrigued by everything she was seeing. We'll have to get out there more often!

One Happy Baby!

February was a fun month for Shaye. She has gone through so many noticeable changes so quickly. She is just such a happy baby the majority of the time with fewer crying spells and more intense curiosity and exploring. She reaches out to touch everything including faces, plants, toys (of course) and anything she can get her hands on. She sucks on her hands and makes raspberry noises with her mouth that are hysterical! It is easier to take her out and about with us as well. Let's see what March has in store for us.
